Could Therapeutic Joint Injection Therapy Be Right For You?

Cortisone injections, Medicine, and Surgery may not be the best solution for knee pain or other types of arthritis pain. When treatments like these no longer work there is a safe, non-surgical alternative, Therapeutic Joint Injection Therapy.

Therapeutic Joint Injection Therapy works without Surgery as a cushioning, protecting, lubricating and/or barrier as the primary purpose for homologous supplementation. Our autologous and homologous injection starts the process of healing immediately after the first injection and helps to begin to provide cushioning between the joints for relief for many types of chronic pain symptoms including:

  • Weakness and Instability
  • Popping or Crunching
  • Swelling & Stiffness
  • Redness and Warmth
  • Inability to straighten joints

How Does Therapeutic Joint Injection Therapy Work

Bone and soft tissue injuries heal in many stages. One of the most exciting areas of research in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine involves making the most of the initial healing stages: inflammation and an increase in cells, or cell proliferation.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment, a form of Therapeutic Joint Injection, coming soon to NWA Advanced Medical, is becoming a more popular option for giving a biological boost to the healing process. PRP treatment has received significant attention from the media and has been used by numerous professional athletes.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.

PRP injections are prepared by taking anywhere from one to a few tubes of your own blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into your injured or diseased body tissue. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces.

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) comes from a patient’s own blood.
  • PRP is a concentrated source of growth factors and cellular signaling factors that play a significant role in the biology of healing.
  • Basic science studies show that PRP treatment may improve healing in many tissues.
After your first injection, a follow-up procedure called Viscosupplementation is sometimes performed. In this procedure, a gel-like fluid called hyaluronic acid is injected into the knee joint. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the synovial fluid surrounding joints. It acts as a lubricant to enable bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber for joint loads. People with osteoarthritis have a lower-than-normal concentration of hyaluronic acid in their joints. The theory is that adding hyaluronic acid to the arthritic joint will facilitate movement and reduce pain.
Viscosupplementation was first used in Europe and Asia, and was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1997. Several preparations of hyaluronic acid are now commercially available and are covered by most major insurance providers as well!

Frequently Asked Questions

Therapeutic Joint Injection Therapy works without Surgery by using a cushioning agent for homologous supplementation. Our autologous and homologous injection starts the process of healing immediately after the first injection and helps to begin to provide cushioning between the joints for relief for many types of chronic pain symptoms.

What Is GenVisc850?

GenVisc 850 is a product that is injected into your knees to treat knee pain from joint inflammation and stiffness due to a disease known as osteoarthritis (OA).

GenVisc 850 is from a class of products known as hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, or hyaluronan (HA), which is also referred to as viscosupplementation therapy. It’s used in a nonsurgical procedure that helps supplement the viscous properties of the fluid in your knee joint. GenVisc 850 is approved for patients who have not adequately responded or have failed to find sufficient relief from simple analgesics, exercise or physical therapy.
